From International Speaker to the Emergency Room

Laura Beauparlant International Keynote Speaker

Have you ever had one of those weeks where you felt like a total rock star? Everything in your business and life is going your way and you are feeling great and powerful?

I had one of those a couple of weeks ago. I went from speaking at a conference in Niagara Falls, to London, England for my first international speaking engagement.

I am now an International Speaker (aka Rock Star!)

Then I followed it up by completing my new book Brand Chemistry, How to attract the right clients – and keep them (which will be coming out March 2019). So needless to say, I was feeling good.

Then last Friday – a busy day filled with meetings and clients calls – I was hit with a killer migraine followed by a call from my younger son’s school that he had fallen off the monkey bars and hurt his wrist. I raced to his school and spend the afternoon cuddling him in emergency.  I canceled my afternoon calls knowing that at that moment, nothing was more important that being with my son.

His wrist was broken in 2 places and after 3 hours we left the hospital with a cast on his arm. Did I mention we were also throwing his 7th birthday party that night? He insisted the party forge ahead (nothing like good friends and ice cream cake to make you feel better!)

I was reminded that life is full of ups and downs, but it’s how we handle what life throws at us. At the end of the day I have many titles (read my past article about titles here) and they carry different levels of importance at any given moment.

When I was giving my killer keynote talk – that was the most important thing at that moment. When my son broke his arm – being a loving mom was the most important thing.

We all need reminders that we have different roles at different moments in our lives. Being able to be present in each moment is what’s important.

I’d love to hear your stories! Please comment below.
