A Journey from Fear to Fulfillment
Seven years ago, I was in a huge state of transition. I was closing my first business, developing Brand Camp, launching Lab Creative and hiring a designer. I was terrified and exhilarated (which I later learned create the same physiological response)!
What led me to this revolution and how did I know it was the time?
It’s easy to look back now – with the benefit of perspective – and share this experience with you. But it certainly wasn't easy at the time.
So, let me start with the event that became the catalyst for this life-changing transition. In 2015, two decades after a traumatic car accident, I met the man who held my hand and kept me conscious before paramedics arrived.
Meeting him was a beautiful and profound moment in my life, and yet it unleashed complex feelings that lead me into a state of despair.
My work felt meaningless.
My identity was fragmented.
My life felt purposeless.
I allowed myself to sit with all of these feelings. And let me just say that this is not an easy thing to do. This process took many months and was painful, but I did the work to move through it.
This experience reminded me that I was meant for BIG things! I survived for a reason all those years ago, and I knew I had to make a dramatic change in order to have the impact I desired. The fire that had been extinguished inside of me, became ignited. I knew what I needed to do.
I ended a significant chapter in my life by closing the successful stationery design business I had built over 12 years.
Terrifying and exhilarating… these are the emotions you feel when you’re on the right track. And I was on the right track!
When something scares you but if feels SO right – take the leap!
You’re probably reading this and thinking “Laura, you make it sound so easy”! So let me share that I’m only giving you the broad strokes and the reality is that I did not do this alone. I had a support network of my husband, family, friends, colleagues and coaches. Even when I was scared, I focused on the impact I want to make – which is to create a world filled with confident, fulfilled and prosperous entrepreneurs.
The past seven years have been a rollercoaster – some high highs and low lows. That is all part life and entrepreneurship. While I’ve shared the big transition that led me here, there are hundreds of smaller transitions that happened along the way.
Life IS change. Let’s embrace it together!
